Forklift Hire for 3PL & Warehousing

Third-party logistics runs on margins and uptime. Your forklift needs to work the dock all day, live inside containers half the morning, and never be the reason a truck waits.

What 3PL work actually asks of a forklift

The duty cycle is unlike any other industry: burst-heavy dock work when trucks land, container destuffing on import days, racking put-away in between, and charge windows that only exist when the schedule says so. Melbourne’s west — Truganina, Derrimut, Ravenhall — runs exactly this pattern, and it’s where more than half of the city’s recent industrial leasing has landed.

Four things matter more than anything else on the spec sheet:

  1. Full free lift. If containers are part of the week, the mast must lift inside a 2.28 m box without hitting the roof. That’s an FFL triplex, not a standard mast — our FFL guide explains the difference in two minutes.
  2. Charge-window flexibility. Lithium opportunity charging means the machine tops up during smoko instead of demanding a dedicated 8-hour window. On a 100A charger, a meal break puts real percentage back in the pack.
  3. Turning radius. 3PL sites rack tight. The difference between a 2,110 mm and a 2,500 mm turning circle is an entire aisle layout.
  4. A rate that matches contract terms. Client contracts run 12–36 months; your forklift agreement should too — not a casual rate that assumes you might return it Friday.

The machines we put into 3PL sites

  • BYD EL25-Pro — the default: 2.5 t, 4.8 m FFL for containers and high racking, 100A fast charging, and the tightest turning circle in our fleet (≈2,110 mm).
  • BYD EL20-Pro — same FFL/fast-charge package at 2 t, for sites whose pallets rarely pass 1,800 kg.
  • EP EFX5-251 — the value all-rounder where containers aren’t in the picture; its modular battery doubles to 560Ah if you win a second-shift contract.

The commercial fit

New 3PL contracts are exactly when equipment decisions happen — and exactly when capital should stay in racking and people. A fully maintained weekly rate ex GST turns the forklift into a line item that scales with the contract that pays for it, servicing included, breakdown response on us. If the contract grows, we re-fit the fleet; if a site consolidates, talk to us early about moving machines rather than paying for idle ones.
